Sinenhlanhla Chauke, a South African art director and illustrator, has rapidly emerged as a significant figure in the creative industry. Born in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga, Chaukeโs artistic journey began amidst the vibrant visuals of his hometown, notably the hand-painted signage of local barbershops and spaza shops. This early exposure ignited a passion that led him to pursue Visual Communication at the Academy of Digital Arts in Cape Town.





In late 2018, Chauke founded 99Perspective, an art direction and illustration studio that reflects his multifaceted approach to creativity. Through this platform, he has collaborated with prominent brands and agencies, including Puma South Africa, Sony Music, Remy Martin, and Spotify, contributing to campaigns, product designs, and branding projects.
Chaukeโs work is deeply rooted in his cultural heritage, drawing inspiration from African aesthetics, language, and traditions. He emphasizes the importance of representing Black individuals in his art, aiming to create inclusive and diverse narratives. His illustrations often depict characters in safe, familiar spaces, blending elements of interior design and architecture to evoke scenes reminiscent of film stills.
Color plays a pivotal role in Chaukeโs creations. He believes in the transformative power of color to uplift and inspire, especially during challenging times. By thoughtfully selecting and combining hues, he crafts visual stories that resonate emotionally and spark meaningful conversations.Beyond his studio work, Chauke has undertaken notable projects such as serving as the head art director for the Loeries Creative Week. In this role, he aimed to develop a relatable and vibrant visual identity that fostered unity and positivity, particularly in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.
