Karabo Poppy Molestane: South African Illustrator, Graphic and Street Artist

Karabo Poppy Molestane is a multi award winning illustrator, graphic artist and street artist from Vereeninging, South Africa. Growing up from a mining town, Karabo’s love of graphic art has led the artist to work for renowned brands from Google, Nike to Netflix.

“I am inspired by the visual aesthetic of Africa, both contemporary and traditional. Our aesthetic has a long rich heritage rooted in constant innovation and hybridity. I believe that every African carries this with them daily and I believe that it is in the everyday seemingly mundane events where this aesthetic is at its most beautiful to me. So I set out to preserve and celebrate it in my work and represent the unrepresented.”

“I was blown away by how people were creating digital art with all this software I’d never heard of, and communicating just using their art. I came from a traditional art background, and seeing people use technology to tell stories really captivated me.”

Its Nice That
