Intended Consequences

Intended Consequences

Intended Consequences is a powerful interactive project done by photographer Jonathan Torgovnik. The project is culmunation of portrait photographs, interviews and audio retelling of the lives of women during the 1994 Rwandan genocide. What makes the project unique is its powerful use of combining several elements of media, photography, film making and the web to tell an important story. The project chronicles the lives of hundreds of thousands of Rwandan women who were subjected to sexual violence and lived with the scars of being raped and bearing children of the Hutu militia groups. An estimated 20,000 children were conceived during the genocide in Rwanda, and many of their mothers contracted HIV during the same encounters that left them pregnant. They feel they have lost their dignity, are alone and utterly powerless.Check out the website and experience parts of the project yourself.
