Thandiswa Mazwai

Previously a lead vocalist and songwriter of Bongo Maffin, Thandiswa Mazwai, is now one of the the best songwriting talent out of South Africa. A founding member of the Kwaito music scene, her music blends a complex mix of genres that displays her ability to recreate and generate a formidable sound.

A voice for “young Africans in the 21st Century”, Thandiswa spent a significant period of time at her mother’s home village in the heart of rural Transkei, South Africa developing her solo debut album. This exposure to traditional Xhosa melodies and instruments enabled her to forge a unique relationship between authentic traditional music to the present music and cultural scene.

This year Thandiswe released her sophomore album, Ibokwe, an innovative project of sound, style and culture.
